Description
Deviled eggs are a make-ahead dish. Most trays are not made for one.
You boil them on Thursday. You pipe them on Friday. And then comes the part nobody enjoys: working out how something that looks this good on the counter is going to survive a night in the fridge and a twenty-minute drive. A plate. A sheet of foil. A hope that the fridge has room. And the quiet worry that you will be the one arriving with the dish that slid.
Aship designed this container around that Thursday-to-Saturday problem instead of around a spec sheet. Two boxes, 20 individual slots each, 40 deviled egg halves in total – and five details that each exist because of something that goes wrong with the trays people already own.
Thursday night: make them, close them, forget them
Twenty individual horizontal slots per box hold each half level and separated, so nothing touches and nothing tips. Fill both boxes and you have 40 halves – a full holiday table’s worth without dragging out a second platter. Snap the lid down: four locking clips, one on each side, with a silicone ring between lid and base. Turn the date dial to the day you made them.
Friday: they wait in the fridge
This is where most covered trays lose. Seal one tight and by morning the lid is fogged and the swirls have gone watery – you can see the disappointment before anyone tastes it. So the lid has a small air vent: covered enough to protect, vented enough to let that moisture out. The two boxes stack into the height of a single shelf slot, and the clear body means you can see what is inside without opening a thing.
Saturday morning: one hand, out the door
The handle is moulded into the lid rather than clipped on, and shaped for a whole hand. Lift a loaded box by it and the lid stays where it belongs – that is what the four clips and the silicone ring are for. Each box seals under its own lid, so you can send one to the potluck and keep one at home.
Saturday afternoon: open it and serve
No transferring to a serving dish, no re-plating in someone else’s kitchen. Set the box on the table, lift the lid, and there they are: straight rows, tops still swirled, exactly as you piped them. Your serving fork is in the slot on the side of the tray, so whoever you hand it to already has everything they need.
Sunday: it goes back to work
Lift out the egg tray insert and the box becomes an everyday container – washed strawberries, cut vegetables for school lunches, hard-boiled eggs, snack portions, Easter eggs waiting for the hunt. Afterwards, box and insert go in the dishwasher (top rack) and come out the same shape they went in. A tray you use twice a year is an expense; one you use every week is a bargain.
